金华国际山茶物种园于1999年3月6日由国际茶花协会前主席 Pat Macdonald女士亲自奠基，金华市林业局负责承接，经三年多时间建成的世界上第一个致力于收集、保存、栽培、驯化、育种以及利用山茶属植物原种的公园式专类园，总投资一千余万元。
本园坐落在被命名为“中国茶花之乡”的 浙江省金华市郊，占地近10公顷。 到目前为止，本园已经收集山茶物种多达 202个。涉及到山茶属的4个亚属和17个组别，物 种数量占已定名的物种总数的80％。这些物种均采自它们的原产地，从而 保证了其正确性。本园山茶 物种的收集还将不断进行完善。所收集的物种 完全按照张宏达教授的山茶属植物分类系统进行种 植，而成为一本活的山茶属植物分类教科书。
园内同时还种植有大小不同的伴生树种和新奇的茶花品种大树，再加上蜿蜒的小路，翠 绿的草坪，漂亮的亭台和潺潺的流水等景观， 使人真正感受到，这里确实是一片山茶属植物种质资源的保护地。
本园致力于茶花新品种的培育、引进和传统品种的保存，拥有茶花品种达1000余个。这些品种花色奇特，红似火、白如雪、粉如面，更有黑色、紫色、黄色品种系列；花径从巨型到微型均有；花型有牡丹、文瓣、齿瓣、托桂形状；花期有早花、中花、晚花；另还有芳香、抗寒、观叶、花篱、矮性茶花品种系列。
Jinhua International Camellia Species Garden which is energetically supported by Jinhua municipal government and various levels leaders, laid a foundation by international camellia association former President Ms. Pat Macdo nald on March 6, 1999.and taken charge by Jinhua Forestry Bureau It is the first one kind of gardens especially in park type that devoted to collect, keep, culture, tame, breeding, utilize the camellia belonging to the original kind of plant. It took more than three years to build up it and the total investment is more than 10 million yuan.
This garden locates in the suburbs of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province where named of township of the Chinese camellia ". It takes up an area of nearly 10 hectares. Up till now, this garden has already collected 202 species of camellias, inncluding 4 inferior kinds and 17 groups that camellia belong to. Species quantity account for 80% of the total amount that are named already. These species are adopted from their countries of origin, thus guaranteed their exactness. The collection of this garden of camellia species is being still carried on constantly perfectly. The species collected to plant according to Professor Zhang HongDa's the camellia belongs to categorized system of plant totally, and it becomes a textbook of the camellia belongs to the categorized system of plant alive.
Still plant varieties of trees in different sizes, and novel big tree of camellias at the same time in the garden, combining with such view as the sinuous path, jade green lawn, the beautiful pavilion platform and murmuring flowing water, etc. They all make people feel that it is really a good place where camellia belongs to the plant in the ground of a kind of protection of resources.
This garden is devoted to cultivating, introducting the new variety of camellias and save the traditional variety of camellias. The variety of camellias is up to more than 1000. These varieties of camellias have peculiar colors, fire red, snow white, cheek pink like complexion, and dark, purple, yellow series even more. The rachises are from huge to miniature. The design has peony, the edge of petal has round circle, the edge of petal has sharp circle and the form of the sweet-scented osmanthus. It has different florescence: early, middle and late. It also has fragrant, resist cold and getting short camellia series in variety.
